Martyn Jones issues cautionary advice to constituents following Chancellor’s statement.

Martyn Jones MP is calling on all constituents to remain vigilant following the recent concern over a misplaced disc in the Revenue and Customs Office.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer this week announced that “two password-protected discs containing a full copy of HMRC’s data in relation to the payment of child benefit were sent to the NAO, by HMRC’s internal post system operated by the courier TNT. The package was later reported missing.”

Martyn Jones MP said: “This is an oversight by HMRC which will probably not adversely affect families in the local area. Nonetheless in the current climate it would make sense to exercise extra caution in conducting your financial affairs.”

“We all have a responsibility now to watch our accounts, and ensure that we report any suspicious behaviour either to HMRC or our banks.”

“It is more than likely that the disc is still somewhere on government premises and has not fallen into the hands of an ID Fraudster but given the words from the Chancellor of the Exchequer this week, it would be wise to be vigilant over the upcoming weeks, something we should all be doing anyway.”

Advice to constituents:
