Martyn Jones MP debates Gordon Brown’s performance on BBC Radio Wales
4th October 2007
In a reaction to Conference season Martyn Jones MP summarised his view on the Labour standing:
“The fact that there were election rumours did the Tories a favour, it kept the dissent down in their conference, perhaps it was the best thing that could have happened to them. It shouldn’t just be a speech that we are looking at. It was very long in rhetoric and very short in substance. I can’t really find one costed policy in the whole thing but it was very well delivered. I’m not so sure that will convince the general public. I think they can see through that type of thing.
Whenever an election happens we are ready. We have a record of success. We haven’t got everything right but the British people understand that. But if you look at some of the things we have done, the minimum wage, employment. Things are not bad as the speech yesterday suggested.”
