Martyn Jones MP praises government’s vision in the Queen’s Speech
Tuesday 6th November
Following Her Majesty the Queen’s address to both Houses of Parliament today Martyn Jones MP stated that Britain’s new legislative agenda contained many benefits for the people of Wales.
Some of the core features of the speech were detailed as follows:
The speech detailed a Planning Bill and a Housing and Regeneration Bill which would allow the Welsh Assembly in conjunction with Westminster to create lower cost housing to combat the growing demand.
It contained a Climate Change Bill which would mandate the Welsh Assembly Government to publish a climate change report and ensure full consultation between Westminster and Cardiff before any further Climate Change Strategy is developed.
Further the speech included a Children and Young People Bill which will assure greater care for troubled students and greater access to social workers for all children in care.
The speech also endorsed a wide range of measures to keep Britain safe from the increasing threat of terror in today’s globalised society.
Martyn Jones commented on the speech as follows:
“This speech shows the government’s continuing commitment to work for and with the people of Wales for a better Britain. In tackling climate change, low cost housing and dormant account legislation the government has shown itself to be at the cutting edge of national and regional politics. We are confronting the issues that really matter to real people.
Wales and the Welsh people can only stand to gain from today’s announcements and I look forward to working with the government to implement the exciting proposals which will come our way in the next days weeks and months.”
